A fast burning, politically charged, rock and roll storm begins to brew. Leading this charge are Manchester band, CABBAGE.
Most recent release, the ‘Young, Dumb and Full Of….’ E.P is a twelve track high octane post-punk slap in the chops. The real gem lies three tracks in with ‘Tell Me Lies About Manchester’, a tale seemingly of everyday characters you meet in Manchester pubs with a claim to fame on Manchester’s rich musical and footballing past, and how it ‘isn’t what it used to be’, and how the band feel no connection to that heritage. They cover American politics and Donald Trump on ‘Free Steven Avery (Wrong America)’, and Tory allegations of left wing sympathy for terrorism on ‘Terrorist Synthesizer’.
With few bands wanting to stick their necks with an opinion on current issues, CABBAGE are the breathe of fresh air in what is currently called by some, a play it safe period for rock and roll.
Their current 20-date UK tour has completely sold out, but they have announced three new dates at larger venues including one at London’s Scala for later on this summer.
MORE IN THE SAME VEIN: The Blinders, Strange Bones.
Thu 29 June: Scala, London.
