A tidal wave of synth-led hooks and angular guitar lines, the Brighton outfit finish 2020 on a high.
The joys of modern living… or in most cases the chaos, confusion and existential crises of modern living. There’s no denying that it’s a tough old world out there. Taking adulthood in their stride and endeavouring to see the funny side, are Brighton hailing five-piece Youth Sector with their latest groove-ladened single Teeth.
We’re shipwrecked on a tidal wave of synth-led hooks, and to the unassuming ear, Teeth could be mistaken for a long-lost 80s chart topping single for all it’s natural groove and immediacy. Finding its footing in funk-fuelled bass rhythms and erratic guitar riffs, the track has all the dancefloor appeal of Kool & The Gang, while also being reminiscent of a Talking Heads number. Urgent in its approach and steered full throttle by effervescent vocalist Nick Tompkin, the band’s last hurrah of 2020 offers a sure-fire moment to kick back, relax and enjoy the mind-boggling depiction of adulthood.
On the track’s dynamic make up, Youth Sector state that, “Teeth sees us continue to push into more rhythmic territory and embrace the influence of funk bands Parliament and Tower Of Power, with its constant danceable groove punctuated by wonky guitars throughout. Lyrically the single explores the sinister magnetism of untrustworthy people and the way they can enter the lives of those vulnerable to their charms.”
Not dissimilar to the ‘eating a jam doughnut without licking your lips’ challenge, it’ll be near on impossible to keep your feet stood still with Teeth blaring out of the speakers. We suggest you give in to the urge and let the track do the rest. Find the band on Spotify here.
